The Dick Nelson Community Service Award recognizes teams that have made an impact and given back to their community. It's an opportunity for student-athletes to build a partnership with members of their community, develop leadership and problem-solving skills, promote academic and social skills, gain a sense of accomplishment, and strengthen team unity. The award is named for Dick Nelson, a former CIF State President (1992-94) and member of the Sac-Joaquin Section Hall of Fame, a longtime volunteer coordinator of foreign exchange programs for the California Interscholastic Federation. The Sac-Joaquin Section honors student-athletes for being contributing members of their communities and the top team will earn a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section banner and $750 for their program. Team members must participate in volunteer services without pay and during non-school time.
