Tennis - CIF Sac-Joaquin

Players from the Tokay High boys tennis team won both the San Joaquin Athletic Association singles and doubles championships on Friday at Oak Park Tennis Center in Stockton.

In addition, the Tigers will be sending a school record six players on to the Sac-Joaquin Section individual tournament, which is in Roseville on May 18 and 19.

Tokay’s Scott Spencer, the top seed, won the singles tournament after beating teammate Fuechi Nyia Yi, the No. 4 seed, in the championship, 6-2, 2-6, 6-0. It was Spencer’s second straight year playing in the championship against a teammate after he lost to his brother Shaun in 2025.

Both have qualified for the section tournament, as the SJAA sends the top three finishers in both singles and doubles.

In doubles play, top-seeded Fuekong Nyia Yi and Jordan Abellera defeated No. 2 Jameslee Fowler and Justin Nguyen of Chavez, 6-1, 6-2, in the final to win the championship. Fuekong and Fuechi qualifying for the section tournament marks the second year in a row the school has sent brothers — the Spencer brothers qualified last year.

Also qualifying for Tokay is the doubles team of Arjun Cirk and Keyvan Nouri, who placed third. The third-place singles player is Landon Thap of Bear Creek.
