Fresh off its first win of 2025, the River Valley High football team is home tonight (Friday) to tackle Oakmont, a team based out of Roseville and a member of the Pioneer Valley League. The Falcons (1-2) earned win No. 1 last week over Natomas as new head coach Mikey Badaluco’s team continues to navigate its independent schedule in 2025. RV is not a member of any Sac-Joaquin Section leagues nor is it eligible for the postseason this year. This year is all about finding stability under a new coaching staff that is trying to help River Valley become a winning program again. The Falcons’ last winning season was 2018 when this year’s quarterbacks coach, Dawson McPeak, was under center for River Valley. McPeak is helping guide this year’s signal-caller, Dominic Younker, a 5-foot-8 senior in his first year. In three games, Younker has completed nearly 50 percent of his passes for 281 yards and a touchdown. Younker’s top targets are Kavari Drummonds (104 yds; 6 rec.) and Joshua Kellas (98 yds; 4 rec.). Drummonds has also rushed the ball for 164 yards and three scores on 26 attempts through three games. On the other side tonight is an Oakmont team that has yet to win a game in 2025. The Vikings have reloaded a ton on varsity, including several off a 7-2-1 junior varsity team in 2024. Elijah Stevens is in his first year on varsity for Oakmont (0-2), completing just over 60 percent of his passes for over 400 yards and four scores. Ocean Munoz has hauled in three of the four touchdowns for 241 yards off Stevens’ arm. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Sutter (3-0) at Bradshaw Christian (2-0) A top-30 matchup, according to MaxPreps’ latest rankings, features unbeaten Sutter Union on the road against 2-0 Bradshaw Christian, a perennial favorite each fall in SJS D-VI. The teams split the last two years, with each team winning on its own field. Both games were one-score games at the end. Quarterback Braden Scritchfield has completed over 80 percent of his passes to six different receivers – Max Bringgold being his No. 1 averaging nearly 30 yards per reception. Losi Asiata leads Sutter on the ground, averaging almost nine yards per carry through three games. Sutter comes in ranked No. 23 – tops in D-V – in the latest MaxPreps Sac-Joaquin top-25 published twice-a-week through the regular season. Bradshaw Christian is ranked No. 26 overall in the section. East Nicolaus (1-1) vs. Marysville (2-1) The Spartans are back at Wahl Field tonight as Marysville comes to Trowbridge for its annual early-season matchup between teams on opposite ends of the region. The Spartans look to bounceback from a one-score loss to El Dorado at home while Marysville tries to make it two in a row before heading into Pioneer Valley League play next week. Mason Taylor quarterbacks East Nicolaus and is the No. 2 rusher on the team behind Jimmy Melgoza. Marysville is led offensively by another member of the Ellyson gang, Karter Ellyson, who has thrown a pair of touchdowns and nearly 200 yards while also running for 39 yards in three games. Karter Ellyson is in his first year on varsity.
