Trojans excel at Grizzly 3200

Oak Ridge athletes not only had a good performance on Saturday at the Grizzly 3,200, but also enjoyed competing and their results has them looking forward to the rest of the season. Athletes competed against other athletes who had similar 3,200 times and there were 22 races total. The Oak Ridge boys’ teams placed first with 57 points, while the girls’ team took second with 58 points. Oak Ridge had three girls in the fastest girls’ race and three boys in the fastest boys’ race. In the boys’ race, Thomas Capelli placed fifth and Roman Zamora ran sixth for the Trojans, as they finished in 9:15.86 and 9:21.57, respectively. Wesley Ewing ran ninth in 9:33.46. In the girls’ race, Adriana Ingargiola took fourth in 10:41.29 and was followed by Giuliana Martino in sixth, 19:59.43 and Maya Day in 12th in 11:21.46. “It was a fabulous day of racing for the team,” Oak Ridge coach Rob Fairley said. “Many Oak Ridge athletes obtained personal-best times and quite a few placed in the top-three in their heat and received a prize.” First-place finishers received a Grizzly 3200 T-Shirt, second-place finishers received a Grizzly 3200 spike bag, and third place finishers received a Grizzly 3200 key chain. Oak Ridge had four athletes Dax Whann (9:54.75 PR), Doug Dudek (10:23.22 PR), Rob Anderson (11:40.50 PR), Lauren Tiedeman (11:25.65 PR) who placed first in their race. The top-seven boy finishers for the Trojans included Capelli, Zamora, Ewing, and Oscar Carrillo (15th, 9:44.80), Dax Whann (22nd, 9:54.75 PR), Bailey Van Leemput (23rd, 9:56.27 PR) and Austin Mackovic (30th, 10:06.57). The top-seven girl finishers for the Trojans were Ingargiola, Martino, Day, Lauren Tiedeman (18th, 11:25.65 PR), Emi Madsen (20th, 11:31.65), Sutton Paulsen (27th, 11:43.41 PR) and Elise Sale (42nd, 12:32.67 PR). “The Grizzly 3200 was a fun meet for the team to compete in because it showed our athletes their fitness level is high,” Fairley said. “They were able to race fast on the track from the strength training they have been doing throughout the season. This meet has got our athletes excited about completing the season strong in the big meets in November and also has got them excited about the upcoming track season.” The next meet for the Oak Ridge cross country team is the Sierra Foothill League Championships at William Jessup University on November 1.
